The Sociable Bench

I’ve always been fascinated by how furniture can create space for people to meet and talk. A bench is a very democratic piece of furniture – you sit side by side, with no hierarchy. It’s simple, flexible, and social.

I wanted to create a piece that naturally belonged in the kitchen, but could also move freely around the home. The challenge was to combine simplicity with functionality – to design something that looks light, but is strong and comfortable. The shelf beneath the seat became a key part of that solution: it’s integrated into the construction, but also adds an extra layer of everyday use.
